Julian Hill, a junior, died instantly in the 6600 block of Derby Road near Union Road. School Athletic Director Robby Moon said Hill had recently moved to the township from the Cleveland suburb of Bedford, had enrolled at the school last week and played basketball. Hill's stepfather, Lawrence D. Mack, warden of the Dayton Correctional Institution, was home at the time of the incident, his wife Rosalyn Mack said, preparing for his induction into the Middletown High School Hall of Fame later in the evening. Rosalyn Mack described her son as a talented sketch artist and dutiful son who was just four days into a job he loved at Footlocker at the Dayton Mall. "He had a smile that would light up a room," she said Friday night. "You couldn't meet him and not like him. He was my baby. I feel numb. This is a dream I want to wake up from." Lawrence Mack said his stepson "was a young man trying to do all the right things. He was just getting off a school bus to go home. "The person who did this needs to suffer the consequences of his actions," Lawrence Mack said. Late Friday, Montgomery County sheriff's Capt. Daryl Wilson identified the driver as Dexter Moore, 37, of Jefferson Twp. He was booked into jail pending a charge of aggravated vehicular homicide.
