By Steve Bennish and Scott Elliott Dayton Daily News Friday, September 07, 2007 JEFFERSON TWP., Montgomery County — The driver involved in an accident Friday that left a 17-year-old Jefferson High School junior dead was being held Friday night pending the filing of a charge of aggravated vehicular homicide. Julian Hill, the student identified by school Athletic Director Robbie Moore, was killed instantly when he was struck by a car about 3:15 p.m. after he got off a school bus in the 6500 block of Derby Road near Union Road, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office reported. Hill recently moved to the township from the Cleveland suburb of Bedford and had enrolled at Jefferson Twp. High School last week, Moon said. The driver booked into the county jail was identified as Dexter Moore, 37, of Jefferson Twp., sheriff's Capt. Daryl Wilson said. According to Chief Deputy Phil Plummer, the driver was traveling at least 75 mph in a 45-mph zone and failed to acknowledge the stop sign extended off the side of the yellow bus. The bus was eastbound on Derby Road and the car, a black Mercedes, was westbound on Derby. After striking Hill, the car sideswiped three trees, hit a culvert and smashed into a utility pole. A passenger in the vehicle, identified as the driver's girlfriend, was seriously injured and taken by helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital. Her name and age were not immediately available. "In this situation, the guy was traveling way too fast," Plummer said of the car's driver. A preliminary investigation suggested that no drugs or alcohol played a part in the accident, Wilson said, noting, "It appears the driver has been driving recklessly." The school bus had just picked up a load of students at Jefferson High School prior to the accident. "Quite a few students witnessed this," Plummer said. They were taken back to the high school, where grief counseling was being offered. Sheriff Dave Vore will hold a press conference Monday morning about the incident, Plummer said.
